KARACHI: Islamabad United opener Colin Munro suffered a hamstring injury and has become a major doubt for the eliminator match against Quetta Gladiators which will be played at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi, on March 15, sources told Geo News on Wednesday.
Munro has scored 309 runs in nine innings at a 34.33 average and 139 strike rate and is one of Islamabad’s top run-getter in the ongoing tournament.
The left-handed batter also top-scored in United’s must-win match against Multan Sultans on March 10 in Rawalpindi where he scored 84 off just 40 balls courtesy of nine fours and five sixes.
Munro pulled his hamstring in the same match and is a major doubt for the first eliminator. However, if Islamabad manage to beat Quetta on Friday, then the team’s medical staff will make a final decision on his participation in the second eliminator.
Remember, Imad Wasim guided Islamabad to a last-ball win against Multan to qualify for the playoffs. He came to bat when his side was 181-6 in 16.1 overs and required 48 runs on 23 balls with no proper batter awaiting to come after him.
The 35-year-old continued to contribute runs but the real responsibility fell on his shoulders when United required 7 runs on 2 balls while Abbas Afridi was bowling.
Imad hit a six and a four on the last two balls to take his side over the line and cement their place in the PSL 9 playoffs.
Islamabad and Quetta are now all set to lock horns on March 15 at National Stadium Karachi. The winner of the match will take on the loser of the first eliminator, which will be played between Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi in the same stadium on March 14.
